The good thing about looking for a new TV cabinet is that you have so many to choose from. But if you want a wooden one you have one important choice to make – do you want real wood or just a wood effect TV cabinet?
There are pros and cons to both of these options. For instance the advantage of a wood effect or ‘fake wood’ cabinet is that it will be a lot cheaper than one made from real wood. But it won’t look the same, and it will be quite easy to tell that it isn’t real wood. So a lot may depend on whether you want to have that real look or not. It will of course also depend on what kind of budget you have to buy what you need to buy.
Real wood has the advantage of looking more expensive and it can be more solid as well. If you buy a wood effect cabinet it will usually be something like MDF or chipboard which has a thin layer of real wood over the top. This is called a veneer, so if you see a TV cabinet that says it is made from veneered wood, you will know what to expect.
The decision you make may also depend on how big you want the cabinet to be. Needless to say, the more materials that are used in the making of the cabinet, the more expensive the finished item will be. So you will need a bigger budget in order to ensure you have the best item that is the right size for your needs.
Real wood has the advantage of strength however. You have to consider the weight of the various items that will be held within and on top of the cabinet. There is the television itself of course, but you will probably also have other equipment such as a DVD player, satellite or cable box and maybe even DVDs as well. All of this adds up and as such you want a good strong TV cabinet to hold them all. When it comes to strength, nothing can beat a cabinet made from real wood.
So you have a decision to make, and it involves quality as well as appearance. Will you manage to choose the right cabinet for your needs, and will you be able to stay within your budget at the same time?
